HousingSpain is a real estate portal with a difference. It was created in 2021 by Frederik Otte for one simple reason…to make life easier for anyone who wants to buy or sell a property in Spain.
Frederik’s first impression when he bought his own apartment in Spain is that “it was a complete jungle”. There was a lack of transparency and no resources available to help individual buyers make informed decisions. He decided that the solution was simple, to create a database that would provide access to both properties for sale and sold properties. The result is HousingSpain.
How does it work?
Details are provided by a network of real estate agents registered in Spain. They register the properties after they make a sale. Agents pay a fee to be included in the database and all information is verified before it is uploaded, to ensure intelligent decisions can be made based on accurate information.
How to use HousingSpain
It couldn’t be easier…simple, safe and savvy!
- You can search by town, area, properties for sale or sold properties.
- Alternatively, if you don’t have the town or area, select the Map Search button to reveal a map of Spain. To find properties for sale and historic data for homes that have already been sold, simply zoom in on the desired area and then click on the property icon. If you’re interested in finding out more about a specific property, you can do this by clicking the Show Property button.
Find real estate agencies
- Similar to the property search options, you can also search for a real estate agency to help with your purchase or sale. All you need to do is select Find Agency, the search via town or area or use the Map Search facility. Zoom in to your chosen area, find the agents and click See Profile.
As a former marine and technical engineer Frederik spent many years working overseas. So, it was only natural that the next chapter of his life would take place outside his native Denmark.
During regular holidays in Southern Spain, Frederik fell in love with Spain, blown away by the lifestyle, sunshine and the warmth of the people. However, his first attempt at buying Spanish property was opposed by the bank. Having chosen a grossly overpriced apartment, the bank did not approve the loan. It was only when an identical (lower priced) apartment was listed for sale in the same urbanisation that he recognised his lucky escape. This is when the idea for Housing Spain was born.
Since 2019, Frederik has been focusing on the Spanish market and in 2021 the HousingSpain database was launched. And the overpriced property? It is still for sale today….
